One of the Best Things in His Life
A chance conversation with a docent at the New York Historical Society introduced Phil Phillips to Big Apple Greeter in 2015. Seven years later, Phil is a busy retiree volunteering with several nonprofits, including Big Apple Greeter.
Phil, who serves on the Board of Directors in addition to being a Greeter, says Big Apple Greeter is “one of the best things in my life.” He’s shown that he means it by raising more than $15,000 for the program in 2022.
Phil has challenged us to match his fundraising success by raising $15,000 through our year-end campaign.
Your donation between now and midnight December 31 will help us reach our goal.
Big Apple Greeter is an important part of Phil’s “retirement portfolio.” Relationships that started with a three-hour walk around his beloved Brooklyn have turned into long-term friendships. Several times a week, Phil is in touch with past visitors he’s welcomed to New York, as well as Greeters he’s spent time with in other countries.
These dividends are priceless, which is why Phil joined the Board and created the challenge - so that others can benefit from the same experiences.
When Phil and his wife Ellen opened their home for a Big Apple Greeter fundraiser in the spring, it was a testament to the richness of his experience as a Greeter. Phil loves history, he loves New York, and he loves people.
